Old Time Music with Katie McCoy

Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique, Katie offers patient, encouraging instruction rooted in the Appalachian tradition.

Suzuki Violin & More

Our Suzuki program offers lessons in violin for young children and their families. The Suzuki method emphasizes learning music the same way children learn language — through listening, repetition, and encouragement. Every child can learn music, and we believe it should be part of their early education.

Learn about our traditional Appalachian style of music — and contribute to keeping it alive in today's world! Hundreds of years ago, old time music was made when neighbors got together and played, no matter their skills or their instruments — they just enjoyed their community, had fun, and made music together. We are dedicated to making folk music accessible and inclusive to everyone, keeping that spirit alive today. We host a beginner jam, open to the public, every week (coming soon after opening!), with free skills instruction during the first half hour. We also offer a variety of old time music lessons, for adults or children, including fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, and more, for when you are ready to take your skills to the next level.

Suzuki Music School

Do you have a young child, and a dream that your child can engage with music in a profound way?

The Suzuki method is widely acknowledged to be one of the very best ways in the world for your student to learn music. It is inclusive to every child, fundamentally believing that every child can learn music and deserves to learn music as a part of their early education. This method of learning involves lots of parent participation and daily practice. (For the first book, you as the parent will be doing much more work than your child!) The Suzuki method sets up your child to succeed at playing a standardized repertoire of classical music, reading sheet music, playing with others, and playing on stage, and playing with beautiful tone and heart. Most importantly, the rigor of this method helps build fundamental skills of patience, focus, self-expression, responsibility, and confidence. If you think this might be a good fit for you and your child, please talk with us or schedule a test lesson! Our teachers through Maple & Spruce focus on the beginnings, setting your student up for success in any area of music. We also offer luthier services for fiddles, including everything from repairing cracks to adjusting the bridge. Check out more on our Fiddle Repair page:

Join us for our Friday night Old Time Jam! We host an old time jam, beginner-friendly and open to the public, on Friday evenings. All of our students, teachers, and participating Maple & Spruce musicians are encouraged to come for our jam!

Early Session

Free group lesson, customized for whoever is there! This may be learning a new tune if there are mixed instruments, or working on technique for a specific instrument. Great for beginners!

Open Jam

Open jam, taking turns picking tunes. Encouraged to pick songs from our tune book so others can follow along.
