Fiddle Repair

We believe that all instruments deserve a second chance, and we are dedicated to helping get fiddles out of closets and attics and into players' hands

Accessible Folk Fiddle Repair

Did you find an old fiddle in your grandpa's closet, and you don't know what to do with it? Bring it to us! We can assess and help get it playable.

Our folk luthier rates are fair and competitive, and lower than classically trained luthiers will charge. As a tradeoff, we do not have a professional certification and we do not work on high value instruments.

What we DO work on:
Student violins, intermediate violins (worth $200-$2000)
Old time fiddles, folk fiddles of all varieties (these may value more than $2000, it is up to you if you want to bring them to us)
Instruments that need to be playable, if your violin is broken and you aren't able to bring it to a formal luthier you can bring it to us

What we DON'T work on:

Fine instruments over $3,000
Museum-quality collectible/antique instruments
Instruments requiring insurance/appraisal
Work requiring certification/documentation

Other instruments -- we only work on violins. If you have a broken instrument, you can bring it in and we can help assess it, but we are unable to do serious repair jobs on other instruments.

We also accept instrument donations. If you have a broken violin and do not want to pay for it to get fixed, you can donate it to our shop, and it will be fixed and used as a loaner instrument for others to play.

Meet our luthier, Katie McCoy

Katie studied with Richard Eddy from 2024-2025 through an apprenticeship funded by the West Virginia Folklife Program through the West Virginia Humanities Council. She was enthralled by the work, and has gone on to repair many fiddles since the apprenticeship. She does everything from bridge adjustment and changing strings to piecing together broken pieces and bending new ribs.

Check out out this video, put together by the WV Folklife program, to learn about her apprenticeship!
