What is the Friday night Old Time jam?

We are proud to be able to host a beginner-friendly Old Time jam every Friday night! Jamming is a traditional Appalachian gathering of community -- musicians, friends, neighbors, young and old -- where we play folk music together. This jam is designed to be a positive learning environment, so if you are new to the old time music scene this is the place to be. We will spend the first 30 minutes from 6-6:30 learning something new (this could be a new tune, a new chord, practicing rhythms, harmonizing, etc.) and then from 6:30-8 we will take turns choosing songs primarily from our song book. New musicians can read notes or chords from the book, making it easier to follow along than other jams.

I want to register for a particular craft class, but I don't see it offered.

We have a large variety of craft classes, and many of them are only offered occasionally. If you are eager to learn a particular craft, please reach out to us and let us know, and we may be able to create a class for you!

I want to sign up my child for music lessons, where should I start?

No matter what you pick, music will be a great addition to your child's life. It is a wonderful thing to be able to play an instrument, and to be able to process and express your emotions through music -- you are giving your child a great gift! Your first choice will be what style of music to choose. What role do you see music playing in your child's life? Are you willing to put in some work yourself to help facilitate their musical progress? Will they practice every day? Will they want to play in their school's orchestra? If the answers to these questions are yes, then classical Suzuki music will be a great fit. If you see music as a more laid-back hobby, or if you prefer the folk style and community, we recommend old time music lessons. You can learn more on our Music page.

I am an artist, can I sell my art through Maple & Spruce?

We are so excited to support local makers like you! If you are a local artisan, and think that we would be a good fit, please send us a message and we can discuss your work, and see if it aligns with our vision. We particularly look for artisans who practice traditional Appalachian art forms, and who share our values of inclusion and community, supporting other artists and craft students who might become future artists. It is also ideal if you live nearby and are willing to participate in building our community through attending events and hosting classes.

Can you repair my instrument?

Our luthier Katie McCoy can do any repairs on violins, but she does not do bow rehairing and does not work on other instruments. We believe that all instruments deserve a second chance, and we are dedicated to helping get fiddles out of closets and attics and into players' hands. Our luthier rates are fair and competitive, and lower than classically trained luthiers will charge. Please check out more on our Fiddle Repair page.

Does Maple & Spruce have an online shop?

Yes! In addition to our in-store shop, we list all of our artisan crafts on our Etsy site. Check us out at mapleandspruce.etsy.com

Can you host my group event?

If you have a small group of 5-30 people, we can design an event for your group! Please send us a message if you want to plan an event at Maple & Spruce. We can choose from our activities which one works best for your group, and arrange a time that works for you. Because the size of our space (and parking) is limited, we unfortunately are not able to host a group larger than 40 people total. Our craft supplies are also limited, so if you have more than 8 people we won't be able to do wheel pottery or stained glass.
