Policies & FAQs

Everything you need to know about how Music Together Maple & Spruce works — registration, payment, makeups, cancellations, and a few things parents ask most often.

Policies

The essentials

Registration & enrollment

Registration is required for all classes. A space is held only after registration and at least the first installment of tuition is paid. Classes are capped at 8 families to protect class quality and caregiver engagement.

Tuition

$252 for a 10-week session paid in full at registration, or $264 total in two installments of $132 — one at registration and one at the start of Week 5. Music Together® materials (songbook, recordings, app access) are included. Tuition is charged per session, not per class attended; absences don’t change the amount owed.

Makeups

Makeup classes are available on a space-available basis, within the same session. If you can let us know by email ahead of time that you will be absent one week, that will allow us to make space for a makeup or a first time visitor. When you are ready to schedule a make up, let us know what class(es) you’d like to attend so we can confirm we have room. Makeups aren’t guaranteed and don’t carry over between sessions.

Cancellations & refunds

If you cancel at least 14 days prior to the first class of the session, tuition is fully refundable minus a $25 administrative fee. Between 14 days and 3 days before the first class, refunds are 50%. Within 3 days prior to the first class, tuition is non-refundable. Cancellation requests must be in writing (email is fine).

Weather cancellations

Two snow makeup days are built into the Winter calendar. If we cancel for weather, families are notified by 8 PM the night before when possible, and no later than two hours before class — by text to the primary phone on file, and posted on the Maple & Spruce Facebook page and this website. If more dates are cancelled than the two snow makeup days cover, families receive a prorated refund of $25.20 per missed class, or may apply the credit toward the next session.

Illness

If your child is sick, please stay home and let us know — we’ll schedule a makeup. If a sibling who’d normally come along is sick, please leave them home too. Keeping our classroom safe for the youngest babies depends on all of us.

Siblings & visitors

All children in class must be registered. If you have a registered child and a younger sibling under 9 months at the start of the session, the younger sibling may attend free. Older siblings or out-of-town visitors attending one or two classes are welcome occasionally; if a visitor will attend three or more times, they need to be registered students.

Each child is always accompanied by an adult caregiver; a second adult is very welcome as long as space is available. Please let us know when you plan to bring a second adult, so we can make sure there is space for everyone.

Photos & video in class

Please put your phone away during class — partly for other families’ privacy, and partly because when you’re filming you’re not making music with your child, and they notice. We will make sure to designate a couple photo times during the session so everyone can take photos while ensuring family’s privacy needs are met. You’re also welcome to take photos after class!

What to wear and bring

Wear clothes you can move and dance in. You’re welcome to wear soft/tennis shoes or go in socks or barefoot! Please avoid hard soled shoes or boots to minimize the risk of a misplaced step hurting little toes.

Frequently asked questions

A few things parents ask

Is my child too young or too old?
If your child is between birth and age 5, this class is for them. Music Together was designed for the full mixed-age range.
What if my baby just sleeps the whole time?
Babies who sleep through class are still soaking up the music — and you get a 45-minute weekly anchor with other grownups. That counts.
What if my toddler won’t stay in the circle?
Most don’t, at least at first. Children take part on their own terms, and the room is designed to be safe for wandering. Watching from the perimeter is part of how young children learn.
Do I have to sing? I’m not a great singer.
Yes, and yes you are — at least the kind of singer your child needs. Children learn music from the people they love. Your voice is the most musically important one in your child’s life. We’ll help you find it.
Can both parents come?
Yes, when there’s room. Email ahead to confirm; the 8-family cap means space for a second adult depends on enrollment.
Can grandparents bring my child?
Absolutely. Grandparents, nannies, aunts, uncles, family friends — any consistent caregiver is welcome.
What if we love it and want to keep going?
Most families do. Re-registration opens about three weeks before the current session ends, and currently enrolled families get first priority. Each session has new music, and you can stay all the way through age 5.
Is there a try-it class?
We hold free demo classes through summer and early fall, at Maple & Spruce and at community locations around Morgantown. Watch our Calendar page or follow Maple & Spruce on Facebook and Instagram.
How does Music Together fit into Maple & Spruce?
Music Together is the early-childhood music program of Maple & Spruce Folk Arts Collective. Families who start at age 1 or 2 grow up into the same community that offers Suzuki violin, old-time fiddle, craft classes, and our old-time Big Jam. Music Together is the front door.
Does the songbook include all the lyrics?
The illustrated family songbook has notation, illustrations, and activity ideas. If you’d like the complete lyrics to every song, just ask — we have the full published scores available in print or as a download.
